UBC IT covers the cost of NVivo Pro software for faculty, staff and students at UBC. The software requires a yearly renewal. At the time of expiry, NVivo will no longer be functional until a new license key is entered, the cost of which will still be covered by UBC IT. Download nvivo 10 for free. Development Tools downloads - QSR NVivo by QSR International Pty Ltd and many more programs are available for instant and free download. The latest version of NVivo was released in March 2020 and it supersedes NVivo 12. Find the software version number on the ‘About’ screen in your software. To access this screen: NVivo – Windows. Click File Product Info About NVivo; NVivo 12 Windows or NVivo 11 for Windows. File Product Info About NVivo; NVivo – Mac (all versions). The new key can be found at the download site above. Additional Information. NVivo projects can be transferred between NVivo for Windows and NVivo for Mac. NVivo for Windows and NVivo for Mac projects have different project file formats, but can be converted from one to the other using NVivo for Windows.

How to Obtain NVivo
NVivo is available to UMass Amherst faculty & staff at no additional cost. To request a license, please fill out the Software Request form in ServiceNow.
Individuals interested in using NVivo should first contact their departments and inquire about a departmental license. One may have already been obtained, or your department may be interested in obtaining one. Contact IT Software Licensing (software@umass.edu) to obtain the name of the technical liaison in your department who can provide you with the product key.
Note: This is a term license agreement and the product code will change every year.
IT will be contacting participating departments, schools, colleges, and individuals when their licenses need to be renewed.
Terms & Conditions
- NVivo can be used for research and instruction, but not for administrative projects.
- UMass Amherst faculty, research staff, and graduate students are eligible to use NVivo licenses obtained from IT.
- Users may have a second copy, but the software can only run on one device at a time.
- The license key cannot be distributed to ineligible users or to those who have not paid for the license.
Download & Install NVivo
- Check NVivo'ssystem requirements before downloading.
- Obtain the license key (see above).
Download the software. To install the program, double-click the file that you downloaded to extract the installation files to a temporary folder on your computer. Open this folder and double-click the file ending in .exe. Follow the prompts of the installation wizard.
- 64-bit version: Download NVivo 12
- 32-bit version: Download NVivo 12
- Mac version: Download NVivo 12 for Mac
- Launch the software- you will be prompted to enter and activate the license key.
Replace/Extend your NVivo License
Windows:
- Click on the File tab.
- Click on Help.
- Click on Manage license.
- To apply your new license, choose Replace License. Enter the License key in the fields provided.
Mac:
- Click on the NVivo menu.
- To apply your new license, choose Replace License, under Licensing in the NVivo menu.

GET THE SOFTWARE & LICENSE KEY:
- We now have the license key for the NEW version of NVivo released in Spring 2020
- To get the license key, connect to this ITS page and then follow their link to the license form.
- License key is free to CU students, faculty, and staff, and is good for both Mac and Windows versions
- Download the software [you'll need to set up a myNVivo Portal account to do this]
IMPORTANT: after downloading the software and installing it, when it asks you to 'Activate NVivo', you need to use the 'enterprise key' link (smaller font, below the myNVivo link) to enter our license key - Projects created using older versions of NVivo can be opened in the new version, see details.
